| Building and educating the veterinary healthcare team through the VetMedTeam Continuing Education Centers... |
| |
|
The VetMedTeam Continuing Education center offers courses designed to increase the knowledge and skill of every team
member, including practice managers, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and receptionists. Would you or other
individuals in your hospital benefit from more training? Would your hospital benefit? |
| |
| The VetMedTeam Academy courses allow individuals to: |
| ·Access the Web to help in work and career development. |
| ·Receive continuing education from the comfort of the home or from the office. |
| ·Share ideas with other people who have similar interests. |
| ·Have discussions about work-related issues. |
| ·Help ensure that veterinary care is practiced with excellence. |
| ·Be more confident, competent and valuable to your team and the pets and people |
| you serve. |
| |
| Course Format — Our online courses are offered to allow individuals to truly learn 'anyplace, anytime'. You
can learn in your PJs! Courses are generally designed to begin on the first of each month, and instructors are available to meet
weekly with the students during "live discussions" where applicable. VetMedTeam courses are self-directed and students
can progress at their own pace. Members may register at any time and have ample time to complete each course. |
| |
| Instructors — VetMedTeam carefully chooses each of its instructors, assuring they are either practitioners in
their field or educators. VetMedTeam Assistant Program instructors are veterinary technician educators and NAVTA members. Teams of
veterinary technician educators from veterinary technician schools throughout the country lead these courses. All instructors work
closely with the students by conducting online discussions, utilizing message boards, encouraging questions, and meeting directly
with students during weekly "live" office hours. |
| |
| Mentoring Process — In many of the courses, mentors are assigned within each hospital and the mentor
must be a credentialed veterinary technician or a licensed veterinarian. A skills list is often used and filled out by the
mentor showing what skills have been mastered as the student works through each course. |
| |
| Testing Procedures — Testing procedures are done within WebCT entirely online and are automatically
graded and results are sent to both the students and instructor. The tests are timed. |
| |
| Approval — Most VetMedTeam courses are designed to meet the requirements for continuing education in
jurisdictions that recognize AASVB's (American Association of State Boards) RACE approval; however participants should be
aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories. The VetMedTeam Assistant
courses meet the curricular guidelines of the NAVTA (North American Veterinary Technicians Association) education
committee. Students who successfully complete all eight courses will be awarded a VetMedTeam Assistant
certificate. This certificate articulates at many of the veterinary technician programs throughout the country for
those individuals that would like to continue their education as a veterinary technician. |
