VetCE on Demand: Steps to a Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT) utilizes the archive of a live presentation under the same name.
Learning Objectives: Performing a Complete Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT) entails much more than removing plaque and calculus from the teeth. A thorough dental prophylaxis consists of educating the client, an oral examination, and charting the disease process, pathology and anomalies. It also includes radiographs, both supra, and sub-gingival plaque and calculus removal, hand scaling, polishing, irrigation, and home care instructions. Each step is vital to prevent or halt disease progression.
At the end of the course participants should be able to:
- outline the steps necessary to perform a COHAT
- explain the need to clean the entire tooth
- compare and contrast the treatments available to halt disease progression
- list tips to make the cleaning procedure more efficient
