Course Focus and Learning Objectives

VetCE on Demand: It’s Not Always in Their Heads - Identifying Red Flags for Physical Disease in the Behavior History utilizes the archive of a live presentation under the same name.

Osteoarthritis is not a new disease, but there are a lot of new concepts to consider in the identification, diagnosis and management of OA. This course reviews the latest information regarding OA prevalence in dogs and cats, providing tips on how to recognize and diagnose OA and OA pain as early as possible. It also addresses how to engage the entire veterinary healthcare team, including the caregiver, in the management of OA, via developing an effective plan of care.

At the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • explain the continuum of pain and how unmanaged OA pain becomes progressively harder to control
  • identify behavioral and mobility indicators of OA pain in dogs and cats
  • discuss how to proactively screen dogs and cats for OA and the importance of client education about signs of pain when animals are young/ healthy
  • outline how to build a multi-modal OA plan based on the foundations of diet and exercise
  • discuss the importance of using proven methods of analgesia, incorporating these into the plan early and often

This is an open enrollment course. Participants may enroll at any time. Upon submission of enrollment the participant is immediately added to the course. The course welcome email provides login and other important information.

This is an asynchronous course, meaning it does not contain real time components. Participants do not need to be logged into the course at specific times to attend lectures or view presentations. Participants do not need to complete the course in one sitting.

Completion Deadline:

Participants have 60 days from date of enrollment to view the presentation, as often as desired, as well as submit the two completion requirements outlined below. If after 60 days the completion requirements have not been submitted, the participant will be graded out of the course as incomplete.

 

Completion Requirements

The completion requirements for this course are:

  • complete the quiz with a score of 80% or better - multiple attempts are permitted
  • submit the course survey

Upon submission of the final completion requirement, the participant will automatically be marked as completed and the course completion email will be sent out. The participant will have immediate access to the certificate.
