Course Focus and Learning Objectives

VetCE on Demand: Neurodiversity and Disability Justice - Americans with Disabilities Act Includes Neurodiversity utilizes the archive of a live presentation under the same name.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed in 1990 as part of a movement to recognize the civil rights of Americans with disabilities. This legislation seeks to eliminate discrimination. It is not just for people with different physical abilities, but also includes mental and emotional conditions that limit one or more major life activity. What does the Americans with Disabilities Act mean for neurodiverse veterinary professionals in the workplace?

Upon completion of this course the participant should be able to:

  • discuss the history of the Americans with Disability Act and what it means
  • discuss legal rights protected under the ADA, the processes for negotiating accommodations and the limitations of this system
  • discuss steps to be successful and empowered in the workplace as a neurodiverse individual
