Course Focus and Learning Objectives

VetCE on Demand: Bite Check - Detecting Malocclusions in Dogs and Cats utilizes the archive of a live presentation under the same name.

Do dogs really get braces? The answer is: sometimes. Every patient deserves a comfortable and pain-free bite. Addressing malocclusions that cause trauma is essential for their well-being. This course defines what constitutes a normal occlusion in both dogs and cats. From there, it will delve into the various classes of malocclusions, helping veterinary professionals accurately identify and differentiate these conditions. Finally, it will explore the appropriate treatment options for each class of malocclusion. This will help you help patients live a pain free life.

Upon completion of this course the participant should be able to:

  • list the characteristics of a normal occlusion in dogs and cats
  • differentiate between normal and abnormal occlusions in patients
  • compare and contrast the different classes of malocclusions in canine and feline patients
  • discuss the appropriate treatment options for various classes of malocclusions
  • outline strategies to identify and manage malocclusions in clinical practice
  • develop a treatment plan tailored to the specific malocclusion of an individual patient
  • explain the impact of untreated malocclusions on overall oral health and patient well-being
